“No you didn’t” should be your response if someone ever tells you this. Why such a direct response you ask? Simple, why sugar coat your answer to a liar?
To be frank, many today believe they have seen God but in reality have not. What leads me to believe this? The Bible. Those who claim to have seen God today have entirely different experiences from those who did see God in the Bible. To see this, let’s have a quick look at some Biblical accounts of people encountering God Almighty and then compare their stories with the fables of those today.
The Apostle John
“When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, ” – Rev 1:17
“In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord… …Then I said,
“Woe is me, for I am ruined!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I live among a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” – Isaiah 6:1-5
Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!” And He said, “I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the Lord before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.” But He said, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” – Exodus 30:18-20
But, that’s all Old Testament stuff. Besides, Jesus was God in the flesh (John 1:1, 14) so heaps of people saw God when they saw Jesus.
That’s true, but they weren’t seeing God in all of His glory. If we look to the NT, we’ll see that Exodus 30:20 is still true. If we were to see God in all His glory while still being in our pre-resurrected body, we would surely die.
God Dwells in unapproachable Light
1 Timothy 6:16
who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.
As you can see, from both the OT & NT, to see God is a dangerous, scary and life-threatening activity! It is not something that should be taken lightly. It is not something that should be accepted lightly.
Today, many people have claimed to have seen God. I’m not going to curate a list of people who have done this. But, I will give you one example of how lightly so-called Christians take and accept this absurd claim. View this video and consider the enormous difference between this mans claims and that of the Bibles.
Let us not be distracted nor caught up in popular “Christianity”, where storytelling is more important than biblical truth. Let us instead be like that of the Bereans “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” – Acts 17:11
