Well, 2017 is almost done and dusted. And, if you want to make a good start into 2018, now is the time to start preparing to make that happen.
One of the best ways to use the new year is to grow in your understanding and love of God. To do this, it is paramount that you spend time in His Word.
To help me do this, I first have to plan to make this happen. Otherwise, it won’t. Bible Reading doesn’t just “happen” for me. I am never able to “find the time” because I am constantly filling my time with other things. That is why I need to “make time”. I need to be deliberate in setting time aside to read the Lord’s Word.
I bet you are a lot like me. So, when have you planned to be with God and in His Word? Because, as the old adage goes if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Don’t start this year off by planning to fail. instead, plan to make time for the Lord.
Secondly, I need a detailed plan. Saying “I will read my Bible once a day” is not enough for me. Likewise, I doubt it is enough for you. That is why we need to set our starting line and our finish line. For me personally, I need to know what I am going to be doing. That is why I pick a plan and then I stick to it. Otherwise, I will quickly fall apart. I suggest you do the same. It doesn’t matter so much what plan you pick as long as you stick to it.
For me, I will be using the 5 Day Bible Reading Program again. This plan has been great in helping me build familiarity with God’s Word while simultaneously giving me enough time to reflect upon it. If you would like to use the same programme you can find a number of ways to use it here.
