I mentioned in my latest “Blog buffet” that I’m reading through The Poetic Wonder of Isaac Watts and there are multiple reasons for this. But the one that causes this post is because I hope that by reading more about poetry and those who penned beautiful lines it will in turn cause my pen to start writing again.
In that venture, I submit one of my more “recent” poems.

How could God foresee
a decision made freely by me;
while I was walking spiritually dead,
not listening to what God has said?
You say my will was free to choose,
and I agree, but it was only free to accuse
Cause I was enslaved and drenched in sin
so how could I, with shackles, reach to the King?
Then how was I saved, you murmur and ask?
I was chosen, elected by God in eternity past;
not from any work or anything I have done,
simply because God chose me for His Son
Who came and died in my place;
to display the glory of His amazing Grace.
Jesus Christ bore my penalty through the atonement
and saved me on the cross that very moment!
But didn’t you choose? I hear you say –
as if my salvation depended on what I pray!
It is by God’s grace alone that I am born again
and that I am secure in salvation’s unbreakable chain!
The verses below were what I used to kick-start my pen into action.
- Psalm 93
The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
The Lord has clothed and girded Himself with strength;
Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved.
Your throne is established from of old;
You are from everlasting.
The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
The floods have lifted up their voice,
The floods lift up their pounding waves.
More than the sounds of many waters,
Than the mighty breakers of the sea,
The Lord on high is mighty.
Your testimonies are fully confirmed;
Holiness befits Your house,
O Lord, forevermore.
- Psalm 97:1
The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice;
Let the many islands be glad.
- Psalm 99:1
The Lord reigns, let the peoples tremble;
He is enthroned above the cherubim, let the earth shake!
- 1 Corinthians 15:22
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
